The European Commission is looking to launch a mobile Re-open EU application. The application is based on the existing Re-open EU web platform, hosted on the official Europa domain, https://reopen.europa.eu/.
Re-open EU was initially set up as one of the measures to facilitate tourism in Europe while respecting the necessary health precautions as announced by the Commission in its Tourism and Transport package of 13 May 2020. The development and launch of this mobile application is also a concrete follow-up to the Communication on additional COVID-19 response measures dated 28 October 2020.
On 12 October, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also had a video message published on this on EU-wide coordination of measures restricting free movement in Europe. The publication of the Re-open EU application is a part of taking the Presidents vision forward.
